Recommended Beer Readings

This is where I will recommend books I’ve read about beer! I’ll give you a short description and some of my thoughts as well as a link to the book on Amazon in the title. I would love to hear what books you recommend to read (or not read) in the comments at the bottom!

Currently Reading: Brewing Up a Business

Author: Sam Calagione

I am currently in the process of reading this book. It’s a great read so far and I’m excited to finish reading it and tell you all about it.

How to Brew: Everything You Need To Know To Brew Beer Right The First Time

Author: John J. Palmer

Interested in learning all about the beer brewing process? Want to brew your own beer? Want to brew beer but don’t want to learn too much about it? If you answered yes to any of these questions then How to Brew is the book for you. The first chapter is just 10 pages long and will give you a crash course into how to brew beer, everything you need to know to get started, without much else. Plus, if you want more information, the book is broken down into each step giving you plenty of details.

How to Brew has great diagrams breaking down different styles of beer or how to measure gravity. I highly recommend this book for anyone serious about getting into homebrewing, since it contains all the information you need to get started. If you know the basics of brewing beer, this might not be the best book for you as it doesn’t go into harder techniques such as krausening.

Tasting Beer: An Insider’s Guide to the World’s Greatest Drink

Author: Randy Mosher

Tasting Beer has a ton of different topics to teach you more about beer; the history, brewing, pairing with food, and different styles just to name a few. This book is also a great resource if you are looking to become a Certified Cicerone Beer Server. After reading through this book once, you should have the knowledge to pass the online exam. I read through most of this book for one of my classes and then reread it cover to cover the weekend before I passed the exam. Even if you are not planning to get a certification, Tasting Beer will deepen your appreciation of beer. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about beer.
