Enjoying the nice view for graduation photos!

Hey everyone! My name is Chris and I am an aspiring web-developer, beer enthusiast, you-tuber, entrepreneur, blogger, adventurer, DIYer, and freelancer. To sum it up in one word, I like to think of myself as a multipotentialite. I was born and raised in North Carolina and lived there until I graduated college at 22. I received a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration in Marketing and Management with a Concentration in Entrepreneurship and a minor in Supply Chain Management in 2016 from Appalachian State University (yes, they beat Michigan back in 2007). Three days after I graduated, my girlfriend and I packed up her car and drove across the country to San Diego with everything we owned in the back seat.

My Lifelong Passion

We started our new lives together and a lot has changed since we first got in that car. I went through four sales jobs at three different companies within a year before I decided that I wasn’t cut out for a sales career. After taking some time off and thinking about my passions, I kept coming back to computer programing. I had done some coding in the past and have dreamt of creating a video game for as long as I could remember. I dove right into online learning through codecademy and udemy and have learned a lot! I’ve always learned best by doing and that is no different than with coding. Lucky for me, a friend from college was in need of his website being designed! I have gained so much knowledge about web development from designing his first website from scratch. While I used WordPress to design a new website for him, both have been great learning opportunities.

Another Passion

I am very passionate about craft beer as well. I purchased the bare minimum equipment needed to start home brewing as soon as I turned 21 and absolutely love it. So far I have brewed four batches and continue to add to my equipment as much as possible. I am currently learning more about the craft beer industry through the Professional Certificate in the Business of Craft Beer through San Diego State University. So far I have completed four of the class and am planning on taking all of them eventually. The program has two certificate levels, the first is the essential certificate and awarded at six completed classes, the second is the expanded and awarded at nine completed classes. Through the program, I have also become a Cicerone Certified Beer Server by passing an online exam about beer history, style, and proper pour technique.

Why Hoppy Hacker

The name Hoppy Hacker came from combining two of my passions together. Hoppy comes from my love of beer because hops are one of the four main ingredients in the production of beer and give it flavor, aroma, and preservatives. Hacker comes from computer programming, and I don’t mean the illegal kind.

Future Goals

Some of my future goals include a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, getting a full-time job at a brewery, creating a homebrew recipe creator, designing and creating a video game, owning a home, and having lots of pets!

Some quick favorites of mine include:

Books: Eragon Series, Series of Unfortunate Events, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings

Movies: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Hitch, Avatar

TV Shows: How I Met Your Mother, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, Scrubs

Games: Stardew Valley, Dark Souls, Fable, Backgammon
